Get Backers

Get Backers has one of the oddest titles I have seen in the recent years. Granted, the series revolves around two individuals whose job is to retrieve missing items but the title just doesn’t sound right. However, do not be put off with the name alone since the first half of the series definitely is worth watching. The subsequent episodes after the Infinite Tower/Makubex arc seemed to rush and seemed to lack the flow of the preceding arc yet it still decent enough to devote time to.
Let’s me introduce three characters who make this viewing experience a pleasure.
*Ban Midou. He certainly exudes power and cool whenever you see him. He possess the ability of the evil eye, meaning he can hypnotize people and make them think see whatever he wants. On top of that, he has some kind of super strength. His background is almost unknown since the anime cut short even when the manga is still ongoing.
*Ginji Amado. He and Ban-chan are partners as retrieval agents. He was once called the Thunder Emperor who ruled the lower part of the mysterious Infinite Castle. He has the power to produce electricity in his body and use it as his weapon of choice. He and Ban-chan are definitely a mismatched pair although there is strong bond between the two. Fangirls definitely target the duo as their choice for yaoi. Yes, weird girls.
*One of the coolest villain you can find in an anime, Akabane is definitely an interesting fellow who adds his cold blooded streak as part of his charm. Strange, right. He reminds me of Hunter X Hunter’s Hisoka. He can hide his knives under his skin and is able to manipulate them. He is not necessary the villain since he sometimes helps out the good guys but his is definitely evil. You probably understand what I mean.
There are a whole lot of characters in Get Backers, most are of the male gender. Although I was told this was a Shounen anime, I couldn’t help but notice the strong homoerotic tendencies. Like I said, the main duo Ban-chan and Ginji-chan are among the favorites for yaoi pairings.
Anyway, this series is definitely worth watching. The comedy is highly rated and the action sequences and battles are exciting and heart-stopping . Too bad there isn’t a second season.
