Gokusen: Episode 01

I finally found a new series which I will probably enjoy watching in its entire run. Gokusen is about a young female teacher hired in a school full of gang-like students. Although she appears to be naive and care-free, she isn’t perturbed with the threats and danger around her. In fact, she is used to all this gang-like activities being the granddaughter of a head of the Yakuza family and heir to Ooedo clan. However, she does not reveal her background to anyone in school.
Okay, this sounds too GTO-ish but being compared to a great series isn’t that bad. Normally, the first episodes of animes are usually rubbish and barely watchable but this one actually made me laugh out loud several times. Also, Ojou’s background seems to have more potential for deep and complex depths than Onizuka’s character. No I’m not dissing GTO, Onizuka is quite a guy but he is different from the kumicho. Heck, her background is far more terrifying than his. Enough comparisons, I’m just delighted to enjoy such a series.
The animation style might turn-off some viewers if you can past that you will probably enjoy it. Not that it is terrible, but the author’s choice provided us with some average looking characters. It’s not the typical anime where everyone looks gorgeous and what-not. Regarding the music, I honestly didn’t notice since I kept laughing the entire time.
Anyway, what’s up with the dog Fuji?
My spidey-sense tells me that I will love this show. Hopefully, my instincts will be correct with Gokusen.
