Peace Maker Kurogane: Episode 21

We can only imagine what had happened during those terrible minutes inside the burning shack. Tetsu-kun wasn’t physically injured but the trauma of encountering Yoshida-san plus the painful memories of his parents’ death were a severe blow to his spirit. His brother Tatsu-san is visibly worried about him. However, I agree with Suzumu’s perception that big brother is somewhat relieved when Tetsu-kun refused to come out from his hiding place. After the tragic Ayu affair, Suzumu probably has likened himself as a brother to Tetsu-kun. He and Tatsu-san have opposing views on which would be the best path for their little one. One wants a peaceful life eventhough it meant forgetting about justice, while the other one would rather have justice eventhough it could mean death. What a choice.
On top of all the Tetsu-kun drama, the Shinsen-gumi are off to Ikeda Ya to battle the Choushuu and those who are plotting for a revolution. All the top officials, Kondou-sensei, Hijikata-san, Okita-san, Saito-san, the trio plus others are geared up for the bloody fight except for Yamanami-san. After playing his part in the assassination of their previous leader, he has developed an aversion to bloodshed. Wielding his katana is not exactly a thrilling option anymore. Would he be a deserter in this series like what the real one did back then?
Okita-san is showing signs of his illness, tuberculosis. I am going to block out from my mind any plot if the author decides to kill him off in this series. Seriously, I refuse to accept that fate. This is supposed to be fiction, sure it based on history but I’d rather live in a fantasy world where everything will be fine and dandy. Wishful thinking. Anime endings are supposed to suck except for a few rare ones.
I’ve been reading about some information about the history of the Shinsen-gumi and it is not a pleasant read. Their bravery and principles are often accompanied with tragedy.
On a lighter note, don’t you love the hero pose of Okita-san and the gang?
