Fullmetal Alchemist: Episode 27

We finally get to meet the mysterious sensei whom the Elric brothers’ occasionally mentions. Most of the episode was fairly lighthearted. There were some flashbacks from the Elric’s childhood and their first meeting with their teacher. And as predicted by Ed, their sensei, Izumi, has not taken his State Alchemist title too well. Their first meeting in years ended with the brothers bruised and tied up.
Although the teacher has violent tendencies, she is quite the softy towards little kids. Ed and Al’s ages and orphan status could have been one of the reason why she took them as her apprentices. Her story will probably be revealed in the succeeding episodes. Her violent reaction upon learning the brothers’ attempt at human transmutation was a little too harsh but could still be considered well-deserved by anime-standards. After releasing all the rage, the unspoken words and tight embrace told them she understands their pain. Would she fill the role of the surrogate mother for Ed and Al? I may be speaking too soon, but I think I’m going to like Izumi. With Hughes gone, I am hoping she’ll not be killed off by the author. Also, I could not help but get the feeling that Izumi is somehow connected to either Ed’s father or Mustang. Her indignation when asked if she were a State Alchemist, she sure has stories to tell about the government.
As the new season starts fresh, speculations on the homunculus (homunculi?) are still left unanswered. So far, Greed, Lust, Envy, Sloth, and Gluttony are the only known amongst the homunculus. If we follow the seven sins, Pride and Wrath are the only ones MIA.
Scar’s villain-status on the first half of the series may somewhat be altered this season. I see him cooperating with the Elric’s in the future.
FMA sure is on a roll. Hopefully, the season continues at a regular pace with plots and twists at every turn.
