Maburaho: Episode 23

Surprise, surprise. Who would’ve thought that Maburaho has three interesting episodes in a row?
Kazuki’s condition is very unstable at the moment. To be human again, he needs Yamase and Yuuna to give back the missing ashes. Apparently, Kazuki made the same promise to both Yamase and Yuuna when they were younger and holds them dear in his heart. Conveniently, Yamase has some sort of business trip in Kazuki’s neighborhood and drops by just in time. Uhuh. It should’ve been simple if it weren’t for a serious side effect of being human again. When all his ashes are returned, he will lose all his memories and forget everybody else. Yuuna willingly accepts the condition while Yamase refuses. Yamase cannot bear the thought of Kazuki losing all his memories of her. Her final decision will be revealed in the finale.
I was expecting a more sinister story behind Akai-sensei’s background. Her personal heartbreak, which added good drama, was the last thing I suspected. The person whom she cared about had been in Kazuki’s position too. After returning to a corporeal form, he completely forgot about her. Her previous actions could be her way of protecting the girls from that painful experience.
The development is a little too late but at least the series is finishing off with a relatively better storyline.
