Midori no Hibi: Episode 03

No Ayase for this episode? Hmmm…no worries, at least we get to meet another fascinating character, Orin, Seiji’s older sister. Orin is tough, aggressive, bossy, violent, and domineering yet she’s a riot. Her inner sadist seems to enjoy teasing and bullying her younger brother. Although the siblings continue to bicker, they enjoy each others company showing the warm affection they have for one another.

Orin’s major discovery on Seiji’s right hand gave her the shock of her life that technically speaking, Seiji finally won a fight with his sister. After collecting her wits, Orin started to question Midori about her interest in Seiji. She sounded pleasantly surprise to hear someone who adores her little brother. As if Orin’s presence alone is not enough, Seiji reluctantly accompanied his sister and her old high school gang in a hot spring. Imagine Seiji’s frustration at his boisterous and violent companions.

Seiji was getting along fine with Midori in the bath when Orin decided to regal them with her presence. While soaking and relaxing in the hot springs, Orin told Midori how Seiji spent part of his childhood being bullied by other kids. Instead of confronting the other kids, he opted not to resist and forced a smile at them. Orin, who could not accept the mean behavior aimed at her brother, trained Seiji physically and mentally, well, for a week. When he was once again confronted with bullies, he fought them with all his might but still lost. However, his show of resistance became a turning point. From then on, no one ever tried to push him around. Oh, and Orin did not want Seiji to hear this particular subject that she immersed Seiji’s head under water while she was talking to Midori. Her actions are quite contradictory.

Such a funny episode that I find myself laughing out loud at the wrong places. Orin is a wonderful character that I would not mind seeing on a weekly basis. Her kindness to Midori and her tough love to Seiji shows a different side of her which she probably rarely shows to anyone. A glimpse of Seiji’s background honed the foundation of his personality. He tends to be arrogant when it comes fighting but his experiences as a kid allows him not to pick on the weak.
