Yumeria: Episode 01

I cannot draw much conclusion from the first episode yet for the most part, I am enjoying the comedy. The not-so-subtle generic ecchi can be quite a turn-off. For now, I think I can forgive Mikuri’s transgressions. Judging by the first episode alone, I am having a hard time disliking the kid.

The strangest thing happened on Tomokazu Mikuri’s sixteenth birthday. He dreamt of a dreamworld which felt like reality and met a girl who saved him from a weird machine-like attacker. When he woke up, the same blue-haired girl in his dream is lying next to him. When he pressed her for information, she utters only a single word, Mone (eventually, people ended calling her Mone too). Yes, she is no help at all.

For a guy who is having a strange day, he is taking it quite well. He went on to school as if everything is normal. If he thought everything will be normalized soon, he is in for a disappointment. Already confused with the turn of events, he dreamt the exact place where he met Mone-chan, only he saw another girl, his classmate Mizuki.

Leaping into a dream world may not be the most original storyline but I’m liking the fact that this does not take itself seriously. Mikuri could be pegged for a stereotypical ecchi character but for some reason, he has a likeable personality. If the execution does not veer off towards too much useless fanservice and if the plot actually follows through, I can see myself enjoying Yumeria. Honestly, I am easily pleased.
