Chrno Crusade: Episode 21

The mysterious yellow-haired lady from Chrno’s past, came back and freed him. Her name was Magdalena. At a early age she already foreseen Chrno whisking her away and eventually claiming her life. Instead of being frightened, the premonition of seeing Chrno’s tears flowing on his face while taking her life only intrigued the lass.
A few years passed.
A young woman sits alone in a room surrounded by books when a shadow appears. She instinctively knew who the creature was and walked towards Chrno. Without warning, a group of nuns and priests led by Remington surrounded them and ordered Chrno not to harm the saint. Magdalena further surprised Chrno by advising him of Remington’s next attack. Chrno was able to defend himself and simultaneously captured Magdalena. He then took her to Aion.
Magdalena knew Aion’s plan to use her as a key to open the astral line. She mentioned her knowledge and gift to Chrno. She admitted knowing that he will be the cause of her death. Taken aback with her words, Chrno questioned her intentions of coming along with him. She openly told him that she wanted to get to know him more. She went on to caution him about Aion and added that their dream will become a failure. Unfortunately, Aion heard her prophecy. When the time came for Aion to perform the ritual, he announced to his fellow sinners that the Saint Magdalena before them was only a decoy. She was not the right person to open the gates of heaven. He ordered Chrno to kill the woman. Chrno hesitantly grabbed her by the neck. When she gave her parting words and told him how she had come to love him, he knew he could not hurt this person. Aion, raging because of the betrayal, attacked savagely which severely wounded Chrno and caused him to fall off the cliff.
The saint opened up her wings and rescued the dying demon. Magdalena realized the real circumstance of him taking her life. She held onto the device — the one which Rosette currently keeps — that can drain her life force and heal the Sinner. She approved of the contract and gave her life away.
Present. Both Joshua and Fiore are in safe hands yet still has no recollection of their past. Azmaria is an apostle without her gifts. Aion has taken control over Rosette and used her blood to kill some of the pursuers. Magdalena came back to Chrno as an apparition and helped him become normal again. He and the others are now more than ready to fight back.
Okay, the recap is way too long. It’s probably because I am liking this series a whole lot more than when it began. It just feels like the second half of the series is a new show altogether. The constant twists and revelations in the recent episodes had turned this once, um, bland series into an addicting find. Rosette is clearly under control of Aion. A few episodes ago, he kept on urging her to join forces with him. It seemed that unless a part of her accepted the proposal she would not be under his spell. Could it be that her faith wavered in that vulnerable time and Aion used it to his advantage? The heightened build up is about to explode. I would personally strangle the producers if they fail to deliver a substantial conclusion.
