Gantz: Episode 04

Quite a slow episode this time around. Don’t get me wrong, it is far from a boring release but it rather focuses on the main characters’ day after the experience the night before.

Masaru, Kei, and Kishimoto all went their separate ways at the end of the night. Masaru came home only to be reprimanded by his’ and his brother’s guardian. He wasn’t even given a chance to explain himself, although the truth rather sounds farfetched.

Kei arrived at an empty apartment. Next day in school, a few upperclass men ordered their juniors to pay off an absurd sum of money. These school bullies aren’t your everyday kind who just take your lunch money and beat you to a pulp, the ringleader proves to be more masochistic than that. After severely injuring his intended victim, he savagely pull out a tooth from him. Ouch. Kei witnessed a similar incident yet still refused to pay them. His encounter with the strange world seemed to awakened the courage that lies dormant inside him. Well, that and because he conveniently had the tight-fitting attire — now dubbed as the suit — that gives a power up. Unfortunately, at the first few minutes of his fight with the bully, the suit would not work. Consequently, the bully greatly overpowered him. Only after thinking of impure thoughts on Kishimoto, the suit came to life which quicly ended the fight. What sort of trigger mechanism is that? Maybe it’ll clear up later on. And why in the world is Kei thinking of those things while being beaten to death?

Meanwhile, Kishimoto also arrived to an empty house. The phone rang and she answered. Her mother was on the other line, a little hysterical. She was mistaken for her younger sister Shiro and was informed of an emergency. Kishimoto’s body was found unconscious in the tub and was brought to the nearby hospital. The biggest shock to her was when told that the Kishimoto in the hospital and will soon be released. Confused, she left the house and waited by Kei’s door.

BTW, Kishimoto’s last name is Kei. I wonder how significant this coincidence will be on the upcoming episodes.
