Kenran: Episode 05

I am quite delighted to see three strong and fiery women of different generations and background featured in this episode. Captain Elizabeth is reintroduced once again but this time her wild personality is emphasized. She proved why she is named captain of Aurora by maneuvering the ship in supposedly impossible ways. Gutsy, indeed.

At first glance, Anne Grace, director of the Martian government, could be pegged as an ordinary politician who adopts a serious facade. Of course, as soon as her broadcast was interrupted by Nile Poe — the leader of the Martian independence Society and owner of the Aurora — her real personality comes out. On top of the failed broadcast, she was informed about the kidnapping of the granddaughter of Earth’s president, Enora, who was secretly residing in Mars. Her immediate conclusion? She thought that the Aurora was the one responsible for the kidnapping and proceeded take action. Okay, her methods of taking over a fleet may be questionable, but I do like the fact that she used her, erm, powers of persuasion as a means to an end. I don’t mind seeing her again in the future episodes. Could anyone imagine a conversation between her and Captain Elizabeth?

I was gladly surprised to discover that the young lady kidnapped, Enora, did not cower in fear of her captors. In fact, it seems that the captors were more intimidated by her strong personality. At one point, they untied her hands and feet and obeyed her commands when they were caught between attacks. Since she’s included in the group shot of the infamous pirates, she’ll probably be joining them in the succeeding weeks. She’ll probably be smitten with Grahm.

I’m sold. Out of all the new shows this season, this will probably be my favorite among them. For some reason, it reminds of Vandread without the harem crowd. I’m having high expectations with this one. Oops, I think I jinxed the series.
