Naruto: Episode 83

Flashbacks of the young legendary sannins, Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru, usually equates to interesting scenes.

On their way to find Tsunade, Jiraiya accompanied by Naruto reflects on the memories of his younger days training with Sarutobi. Similar to Naruto’s fate while training with Kakashi, Jiraiya was also tied up on a post when he failed to take one of the two bells from the Third. The funniest bit in the entire sequence was when Saru actually hinted to his student that he would like to join him in one of his peeping sessions. Yes, the formative years of the great Ero-sennin blossoms.

Just a stupid thought. I wonder if the Fourth has some of Jiraiya’s perverted tendencies. Come to think of it, the Third who thought Jiraiya had his moments (i.e. nosebleeds when shown with Naruto’s lethal Sexy no Jitsu). Jiraiya, well, he defines the term. With Kakashi who was under the Fourth, Come Come Paradise is his constant companion. And Naruto isn’t exactly immune to shapely women. See where I’m going with this? It’s just an observation.

Back to the episode. Kakashi lays unconscious in his room while Gai, Asumi, and Kurenai speculate on the best way to control the situation with Itachi. When Sasuke entered the room, they managed to omit the fact that his sensei was attacked by Itachi. However, a worried chuunin suddenly barged in and carelessly asked for confirmation on the incident. Once Sasuke learnt of Itachi’s plan to capture Naruto, his protective instincts in addition to his murderous rage towards his brother kicked in. He set to find Naruto at all cost.

Meanwhile, the uninformed Naruto is oblivious to the danger ahead. As he patiently waits for Jiraiya in a room they rented for a night’s stay, a stranger knocks on his door. Guess who is on the other side of the door? Next week will be fun.

I’m surprised to hear that Itachi has serious worries about fighting Jiraiya head-on, even with his partner in tow. Take note, Oro is quite concerned with Itachi’s skill. So logically, Jiraiya has the upperhand between Oro and Jiraiya? Is Jiraiya THAT powerful? Maybe it’s me, but the succeeding chapters of the manga after this episode suggest Jiraiya, Oro, and Tsunade are somehow on equal footing. It’s been a while since I’ve read those so I’m not sure.

Not sure if I’m psyched with the inevitable Itachi-Sasuke confrontation but I’ll be waiting.
