Shoujo Manga

Earlier, I came across an articles from the Life section of USA Today regarding rise of popularity of Shoujo manga. This year, the demand there has been an estimated 20% growth from 2003. The article acknowledges the appeal of the this sub-genre relies on the subject matter quite different from the mainstream American comics. Yay for shoujo fans!

Alright, I’m all for mainstream awareness of manga since it closely relates to anime. However, my inner geek has this slight thing against mainstream popularity (here, anyway). Why? Not exactly sure, but I’d like to think that I tend to go for interests quite different from the typical crowd. I know it’s an inane and idiotic way of thinking but I can’t help it.
