Fullmetal Alchemist: Episode 35

FMA only gets better and better. Himura-sensei certainly knows how to create layers for his characters. And that’s including the villains. Episode thirty five showed Lust’s confused and twisted logic yet also gave a glimpse of her human side.
She deemed the encounter with Lujon ‘a mistake’ in her life. In order to correct this moment of weakness, she murdered the kind alchemist who has fallen in-love with her to bring order in her increasingly confused mind.
When she abandoned Envy’s plan two years ago, she showed that she was capable of kindness. I believe that a small part of her honestly cared for Lujon. He reminded her of a vague memory of a past life. With this strangely familiar picture in her mind, she felt drawn to him. Unfortunately, his similarities to the mysterious man in her head also brought death to Lujon.
For some reason, I feel that her intent upon returning to Lujon’s village was not murder. However, once he wrapped her in a tight embrace she reacted in an extreme way. To bring order to her mind, she finished off the man to stop the unwanted thoughts. Although she constantly questions her identity and purpose, she blocked a possible answer on her way. She may have been afraid of the answers. Her quest for the Philosopher Stone meant one step closer to becoming human. However, she may be scared of becoming one.
I know how tragic it was for Lujon and the others. However, I see Lust (or the homunculi) the real tragedy of all this. As much as they desire to be human, what would it be like for them after accomplishing their goal?
