Gantz: Episode 09

Just great. The author killed off the only non-annoying character in the series. I’m depressed.

Nishi was quite a character, though. He was creepy, blunt, tactless to the point of being mean, and not quite a healthy person to hang around with. However, he still manage to exude enough charisma for me to root for him. Surprisingly, his final moments elicited an emotion I would never have thought I would’ve felt for him.

From the images of his fall, one can deduce that he suffered much pain enough to commit suicide. His last words where the one which surprised me the most. Even though he kept repeating to everyone how much it gave him pleasure to hunt down these strange aliens, deep down all he wanted was to be free from this game. All he needed was ten points to complete his goal. Alas, Katou was too late to stop the bird-alien from letting out an ear-piercing sound which caused fatal otic injuries to Nishi.

I thought Nishi would at least survive at least until the finale. All that is left are a buch of irritating people. Never fear. My optimism still bets on Kei maturing in a better character. If only the author would get rid of Kishimoto and replace her with a feisty female character.
