Kenran: Episode 09

Hmmm…this episode has its moments but it was not as funny as I expected it to be.

The latest installment of the series introduces another crew member, Megumi. She is gifted to hear the hearts of any creature, may it be human or not. However, she cannot control this ability. To avoid hearing unwanted sounds, majority of time are spent locked up in a room where she can seek refuge of solitude. Fortunately for her, Jr. refuses to give up on her living a normal life. With some impossible and improbable chain of events, Megumi managed to come out of her shell and help out a lone monster-like sea creature reunite with its mother and preventing the ship of Aurora from attacking it.

At first I wasn’t too thrilled with Megumi’s introduction. For one, I have a biased against her type of character. In the course of the episode, we were shown a glimpse of her spunk and spirit. She may not be as lively as some increasingly annoying individual who shall remain nameless but I may come to like her if she stops acting like a hermit.

I’m amazed at the author at how he was able to include the old and cliche hot springs episode in a pirate ship. And in Mars to boot! Is it mandatory for any anime to have their characters wearing swimwear? (^_^)

BTW, I’m starting to really like the ED theme of the series, Aoi Tabibito. For some reason, I’ve been listening to it constantly in the past few days.
