Midori no Hibi: Finale

Cliche or not, I live for happy endings. And Midori no Hibi delivered a decent finale which partially made up for its short run. I noticed that it had a certain flow which most of the episodes lacked. After my endless complaints against right-hand Midori, I have to admit that I finally warmed up to her in this final episode.
I think one major reason I did not like about her miniature size’s attitude is that even though she seemed to open her heart to Seiji, it felt that she was not acting herself. Sure, she and Seiji understood that the situation is real, yet I think that a part of her thought that it wasn’t. So to make the most out of her ‘dream‘, she puts up this uber-cheerful facade to live her the life she had always wanted.
Although she ultimately confronted her fear of rejection without the benefit of remembering her history with Seiji, it felt too convenient. To start off with a clean slate is not exactly what growth is about. To learn from one’s past before confronting one’s fear seems more fitting to her emotional maturity. I still like the ending, though.
Regarding Seiji, he finally admitted his feelings for Midori. After losing his precious person, that’s the only time he realized her significance in his life.
As for Ayase and Kouta, I’m sure they’ll find their love someday. I’m just happy that Ayase was rejected in a gentle and non-insulting way.
And how can I forget about the cat. Isn’t it wonderful that he found a partner after being dumped by a snotty feline?
The sheer originality of the premise drew me in the story. However, it was not able to retain my attention for most of those episodes. The heroine’s personality was my major complaint throughout the entire time. The rushed feel of the stories and narrative did little to earn sympathy for the main character. While the finale tied up loose ends and ultimately forced me to like Midori *lol*, it’s not enough to make me re-watch the thirteen episodes again. Would I recommend this to others? Maybe, but be forewarned about the irksome inconsistencies of the storyline and personalities.
