Twin Spica: Episode 12

Whoa, I was not anticipating a quick release for Twin Spica. But now that I mentioned it, I’m probably jinxing myself and the other leechers.

I almost got through the episode safely without shedding a single tear but once I saw the final scenes, I lost it. This series can be uber-depressing but it’s addicting to watch. Getting emotional over a show is form of entertainment, right?

Episode twelve dealt with another flashback from Asumi’s past while her father was still employed under the government’s space program. He was assigned to partake the dirty task of visiting families of the victims of the Shishigou accident and talk them into taking a small sum of money as part of compensation. Naturally, the families were hostile and uncompromising. So for most part, he was probably asked to leave them be.

Meanwhile, Asumi befriended a young girl, Shibata, who lost her father in the accident and who suffered severe burns on her left arm. Although they were able to meet halfway, she left Asumi once Shibata learned the identity of Asumi’s father. Later on, she realizes that no matter who Asumi’s father is, being her friend is more important.

At some point, I waited for either Asumi of her father to point out that they also suffered a loss because of the tragedy. But true to their personalities, they opted not to mention this fact to gain understanding. I suppose it would’ve been a cop out once they told their side which would lead to a cheesy understanding between two parties.

Among other things, I’m guessing that this episode is trying to emphasize Sano’s half-truths or probably lies from the previous eppie. Based on the preview, we’ll probably see more of the incident between Sano-sensei and Asumi’s dad.
