Fullmetal Alchemist: Episode 38

A fairly lighthearted episode for FMA yet it advanced the storyline quite a bit. While Winry and Szie– (let’s call her Miss Librarian) teamed up to investigate Hughes the motive behind Hughes murder, Al and Ed found themselves a travel companion.

With no one to trust inside the military, Miss Librarian (I really forgot her name) sought out Winry’s help. The duo devised a plan to tap the Juliet’s phone line to uncover her mysterious background. They were successful and overheard Envy on the other line. Winry was aware of Envy’s identity but she was careful not to reveal this information to her partner-in-crime.

The two were confident that they wouldn’t be discovered yet Sloth knew what they were up to and attacked them in the liquid-y form. At one point Sloth revealed her face. Winry was so taken aback at the strong resemblance of Sloth to the Elric brothers’ mom that she even whispered her thoughts out loud. This little slip caused Sloth to retreat. Very intriguing, indeed. Does she remember any of her memories as Al and Ed’s mother?

On another part of town, the brothers are at each other’s throats using alchemy in their little fight. Hilarity ensues. They made up by the end of the episode and was able hitch a ride from Marta, who was intent on plotting her revenge on Scar.

Not as wacky as the previous but it’s still a very enjoyable one. Team Winry-Ms. Librarian is comedy gold. I almost died laughing when the word “alien” was mentioned.
