Sailormoon Live Action: Episode 37

What’s happening to this series? After the first season, the entertainment factor continually to drop.
The episode starts off with the increasingly annoying senshi!Luna narrating the previouslies. Let’s just say, her presence does not exactly brighten up everyone’s’ day. The bulk of the episode concentrated on Usagi’s mysterious disappearance in the middle of the night. So to cover her absence, Luna asked Mako and Ami for help. Goofy scenes but not sufficient to save the episode. While Mako impersonates Usagi, Ami looks for their friend. Now, I hate to say this but Ami crying out Usagi’s name repeatedly in the middle of a crowded street was plain stupid.
At the end of the day the four senshis were able to locate their princess. It seems that she was mourning for her lover Endymion and her part for destroying the world. Or something to that effect. I have to get this out of the way. Princess Serenity in senshi uniform is way too gaudy. The faux pearls everywhere are not exactly fashionable.
On the first season, part of its charm was the fact that it does not take itself seriously. Yet as the second season progress, the series is moving in the opposite direction. While it’s admirable for them to try and develop the characters, the writers have to consider their casts’ abilities too. Frankly, nobody in the cast with the exception of the one playing Kunzeite can act beyond the superficial, cutesy layer. I’m probably wrong with my assessment but I see some depth within the Kunzeite-dude. The others need to attend acting workshops.
Clearly, I’m slowly developing a disenchantment with the series. The addicting quality it once had is somehow lost on me. Hopefully, these episodes are only a slump.
