Samurai 7: Episode 04

The much maligned Gonzo is proving the audiences wrong. Hmmm…does the fear of being gutted by die-hard Kurosawa fans had an effect on them?

Before anything else, let me say that samurai-mecha dude is an idiot. A lovable and likeable idiot but an idiot nonetheless. Don;t get me wrong, I like the dude.

Another potential Kanbei-recruit, Kyuuzou is introduced in the series. Let’s not kid ourselves, he’ll join the crew. Or maybe not. I haven’t seen the movie but according to the hero shot at the opening credits, Kyuuzou is among them unless my bad eyesight deceived me. Ally or foe, he’s one cool customer.

The series is showing signs of a healthy sense of humor. I almost choked on my popcorn when Kanbei surprisingly uttered, “I’m in love…” while fighting Kyuuzou. But of course, he was referring to the skill. Uhuh. Fanfic writers are probably having a field day on this little scene.
