Yet another list
Here’s a rundown of the shows I’ve been following this season.
Fullmetal Alchemist. The series remains strong in its animation, pacing, and storytelling. The identity of the last homunculus, Pride, finally reveals himself but the whole show is still shrouded with questions. Need…to…be…patient.
Naruto. Since the anime is in the middle of my favorite arc, I’ve been anticipating the face off between the three legendary sannin. One downside after the arc ends, I’m dreading the focus on uber-angsty Sasuke. Argh, that brat needs some major personality overhaul.
Aishiteru ze, Baby! Like I said in my latest entry for the said show, I’m losing interest. Oh, and OP theme is starting to bug me. Go figure.
Kyou Kara Mao! I still find this quirky, homo-erotic show entertaining and amusing. Frankly, I am not expecting a whole lot from MaruMa. So it’s quite difficult to be disappointed with such expectations. Overall, eye-candy rules the series.
Samurai Champloo. The impressive first episode failed to maintain its intensity. None of the three main characters connect to the audience, or to me at least. It focused too much on Fuu and her misadventures. If we’re looking at a twenty-six episode deal, Samurai Champloo could just be developing its narrative and blossom into an excellent find. Wishful thinking? Probably.
Shura no Toki. After a disappointing first arc, the second arc bounced back with much vigor. Now, the third arc introduces a set of characters I know I’ll enjoy. From Musashi to Okita Souji, I love it when legendary figures are interspersed throughout its run.
Samura 7. My growing bias against Gonzo dissuaded me from watching the pilot. However, one viewing changed all that. Err…for this series anyway. So far, it tickled my fancy and I’m getting giddy from anticipation.
Otogizoushi. Otogizoushi has captured my attention from its opening credits to its ending theme. Although I’m not familiar with its history other than snippets of info here and there, the tone and the atmosphere of the series draws me in. I can see myself falling in-love with this show.
Of course, there’s One Piece but I’m following K-F’s releases so it doesn’t count. Sensei no Ojikan with all its repetitiveness is still good for laughs. Monster, Kenran, and Melody of Oblivion continue to captivate me. So far, I’m quite ambivalent with Kurau and Fafner. For the slew of harem-type anime this season, I instinctively avoided them like plague.
Damn, I’m having too much fun this summer with all these shows. With fall semester starting soon, I probably won’t have any time for half of these titles.
