Elfen Lied: Episode 01

What can I say that hasn’t been said with the pilot of Elfen Lied? I was expecting for a bloody mess. It delivered that and then some. I’m guessing Tarantino would’ve enjoyed the first few scenes of the episode.
The background music used during Lucy’s murderous rampage sounded like old Cathedral music. Blending violence with this type of music has been used before in films notably Face Off, but for some reason, I still find the mix superbly done.
The opening must be one of the best artworks I’ve seen in an anime. Of course, liberally “borrowing” from a known artist helped. Admittedly, I’m not knowledgeable with arts and such. So the symbolisms are lost to me. Maybe someone can explain to me the meaning behind the original artwork and how it closely relates to this series. Hmmm . . . maybe I’ll research this particular work later on.
While the first episode proves to be interesting, I am not as excited as I thought I would be with the series. The character designs somewhat clash with the atmosphere of the show. It’s probably a matter of taste in designs. If the series retains the serious tone and not devolve into ecchiness, I may follow the series till the end.
