Samurai Champloo: Episode 07

Maybe I misjudged Samurai Champloo (or maybe not). Sure, Fuu was again taken as a hostage. We learn nothing about the sunflower-samurai. And the storyline advancement barely nicked an inch. Yes, there’s a compliment somewhere here. But let’s give credit where credit is due. The series exhibits signs of strange humor that elicits favorable responses. Something may come up eventually and surprise me later on. But for now, it’s still an average show.
Mugen may be my favorite (having a “favorite” is a stretch but you know what I mean) amongst the three but I find Jin very amusing. His deadpan deliveries cracks me up. His personality reminds of this friend of mine but I won’t get into that because he’ll kill me if I do. ^^
As I stated in previous entries, the show should have moved towards character development to make its main protagonists connect with the audiences. Fuu has the full-time job of being cute and being kidnapped. To be taken as hostage every storyline is bothersome to say the least. So far, she lacks a presence which makes a regular viewer root for her (unless you’re seriously obsessed with her). Mugen and Jin’s purpose on tagging along Fuu’s adventure has yet to be established.
Passable stand-alone episode but not exactly a rewatchable one.
