Fullmetal Alchemist: Episode 49

Avert your eyes, if you don’t want to be spoiled. Isn’t it odd for me to include alerts when I usually spoil most of my entries in other series? But of course, Hagaren is special… ^^
Upon receiving substantial information from the Edward-impostor, Ed headed to the abandoned cathedral which leads ultimately leads to Dante’s lair. Unbeknownst to him. Dante already anticipated his presence and planned for his arrival. They inevitably faced each other and well, talked. Seriously, their conversation mostly revolved around philosophical matters on the ‘Law of Conservation’. Dante’s twisted logic surprisingly made sense. She questioned the truth behind the so-called equality of a trade, not only in alchemy but more so, in everyday life itself.
After a brief display of powers from both sides, Ed found himself transported to another place and time where he reunites with his father. With three episodes left, I’m expecting chock full of surprises in store for the audience. And to echo the Edward-impostor’s sentiments, Ed should come back alive, preferably with his brother Al in tow.
As Kungfucius noted, the camera work during the Dante-Ed conversation highlighted a three-hundred-sixty degree motion. A full circle. Perhaps, to make an emphasis on equivalent trade. It’s sort-of reminiscent of Izumi’s “one is all, all is one” question. I’m probably stretching (again).
In contrast to the ‘being connected’ theme, there were too many ‘broken’ individuals in this episode, may it be emotionally, mentally, or physically. Rose’s blank stare seemed almost puppet-like. Sloth’s demise must’ve been too much to handle for Wrath’s fragile and unstable mind. Gluttony blocked away Dante’s commands and possibly, isolated himself to grieve for the loss of Lust. Even Al’s head was kicked away from his body. Just an observation.
