It finally happened

Argh, I just finished watching pilot for the dubbed One Piece on Fox. So how was it? *sigh*

I don’t know if they played the OP because I missed the opening but they definitely left out the ED. I cringed when I realized that Hulk Hogan and his daughter were the one’s introducing One Piece to the US. Zoro’s name becomes Zolo (probably some copyright thing for Zorro). Luffy’s laugh reminds me of the annoying old Woodpecker cartoon. The voice acting on Luffy: unspeakable. I feel like going to one corner and weep.

While there weren’t significant script changes, I’m still miffed with some of the cuts and translations. In the original version, Luffy hits Coby on the head but here, they cut a few frames to make it look like as if Luffy was only playing with him. Then, they even had Luffy lecture on how wrong it is to hit others. Yeah, let’s protect the children from violence. But wait, aren’t they forgetting that Luffy fights by hitting his opponents? At least, they used Gum Gum Rocket instead of Rubber Rubber Rocket. But it’s still hard listening to it when one’s used to Gomu Gomu.

To be honest, I’m too weirded out with the dub to pay close attention to all the details. Well, next Saturday I’ll opt to sleep in rather than watch half an hour of dissatisfaction.

On a brighter note, OP’s exposure will bring in new blood to the community. And hopefully they’d soon learn about the wonderful uncut version of the original. Just my two cents for the this matter.
