Bleach: Episode 07

The latest installment leaves this audience member with a mixed reaction. On one hand, I welcome the arrival of Kon, one of the most fascinating plushies in anime-land. Yet on the other hand, the brisk pace of the title ends up with a feeling of incomplete storytelling. As Garten noted, the episode is packed with subplots. While appreciate the writers’ efforts on the decent scene transitions, the abridged version appears half-done.
I’ve never considered myself a manga purist but I resent deletion of essential dialogue which would characterize one’s personality. Remember Kon’s reckless action to kick the already defeated hollow? In the manga, his true purpose is to prevent the creature from landing on a line of ants. One might dismiss this gesture as cheese but it emphasizes the extent of Kon’s conviction. Oh, well.
Even with my slight complaints, I enjoyed the show. Since the audiences are teased to death with the inclusion of Ichigo’s mother, a look on the Soul Society, double meanings in the Rukia-Uruhara exchanges, and a glimpse of a mystery guy who embroider, I am beginning to be more excited on the upcoming arcs.
BTW, what’s up with Ichigo’s dad’s outfit? Truthfully, I admire a man confident enough to wear pink clothes I don’t think I can take the ruffles.
