Genshiken: Episode 08

Is it me or is the episode utterly depressing to watch? True, in the past months since Saki joined the club, she has been vocal on her opinion about otakus. However, this little snippet of an ep highlights the slow alienation of Saki from her co-members. Because of her preconceive notions, she automatically refuses anything pertaining to otaku-ness.

The episode concentrates on building plastic models. Even though Saki denies it, she seems to be slightly interested in participating the said activity. Unfortunately, her pride and stubbornness only further excludes her from any potential group fun.

To be honest, it’s quite unnerving to watch such a bleak episode. Hopefully, I’m reading the subtext in the wrong way. As shallow as I might sound, I want light-hearted eps. I get my funnies from this series.

BTW, I’m not into mecha and quite disinterested with any Gundam series. However, tinkering with miniatures seem like fun. I’m pretty adept with handicrafts and such…
