Tactics: Episode 05

The chapter deals with a tale which fuses Pinocchio and a Greek myth ala Tactics-style. A doll maker plays Pygmalion with his ultimate creation, Yae. He inevitably falls in-love. Unfortunately, his misguided attempts to perfect his Galatea end in a bittersweet tragedy.

Although the series still maintains the monster-of-the-week type of episodes, the audiences are given snippets of character background. Kantarou’s client for the day happens to be a childhood friend of his who is pleasantly surprised at the Kan’s slight change. And she correctly deduces the reason behind his smile. Perhaps to protect her friend and to make Haruka understand, she recounts small details of Kantarou’s lonely childhood to the demon-eater.

Since I haven’t had the chance to read the manga, I’m not certain on the direction this series. Yet I’m satisfied with the current execution (although I hear dissatisfaction from manga readers). For now, I’m enjoying the non-angsty part of the program because I smell some depressing moments to come. On the second half of the series, maybe?
