Twin Spica: Episode 16

In the previous episode, Fuuchuya briefly mentions to Shu the sad circumstance surrounding Asumi’s special friend, Shimazu Takashi. So once I realize that this installment featured a flashback from Asumi’s past which centers on Takashi, I knew I was in for more sniffling.

As it turns out, Asumi is not completely oblivious to the opposite sex. She unexpectedly develops a bond with a classmate, Takashi. Their relationship blossoms to something similar to couples going out in that age. Unfortunately, Takashi is born with an illness. Within the same year, his weak body simply gave out. Asumi might not have fully comprehend the depth of her feelings but the impact of Takashi’s passing cannot be dismissed as an insignificant event.

Honestly, how much traumatic experiences does Asumi have to go through to satisfy the writer? Then again, I like the melodrama and the sentimentality of this series.
