Twin Spica: Finale

And there goes the finale…

As far as the episode is concern, it is a nice wrap-up to Marika’s storyline. However, as a finale for the series itself, it fails in such a disappointing way. True, it suggests that Asumi, Marika, Kei, Fuuchiya, and Shuu will eventually realize their dreams yet this conclusion has long been expected since the beginning. To me, the whole point of the series is to show Asumi’s journey towards the stars. So informing me that Asumi&co are going to space is a moot point.

Twin Spica’s strength lies on its storytelling. It seamlessly interchange both the past and the present without damaging its flow and momentum. It moves in a relaxed pace yet manages to grab hold of the audiences’ attention. But the slow movement has its disadvantages, twenty episodes are not enough to cover five distinct arcs (one for each of our protagonists) given its pacing. And even though, a number of episodes has been allotted for Marika’s, her mysterious medical procedure is not even thoroughly discussed.

Earlier in the series, we were also hinted with anomalies behind the Big tragedy. For a while, it seemed that it was going to be explained later on. Alas, the series’ life span was cut short and we were given an incomplete series. T_T

Hopefully, Matthew will enlighten us with some scans and info on the latest volumes of the manga. *hint, hint* ^_^

I’ll try to be more coherent later on and try to write some final thoughts on the said series.
