Musings: The new season and then some

By now, most of the audience members have the idea on what to expect for the new series this season. Here’s a quick list on my impressions for the new titles I’ve seen recently.

» Air TV - Given the origin of the title, it is very surprising to see a well-developed plotline flowing smoothly. I’m completely sold.

» Ah! My Goddess - I’ve mentioned before that I’ve only seen a couple of episodes of the OVA and completely lost interest to even finish it. The TV series seems to have grown on me but it’s largely thanks to the resident campus queen and not our protagonists. The pair needs some flaws within them to be considered interesting.

» Gallery Fake - Only the first episode has been released (by the fansub community) but I’m curious on that whole art world intrigue. The premise makes up for the average pilot.

» Jinki Extend/Xenosaga - As much as I enjoyed its initial episodes, I’ve relegated them at the bottom of my queue. Mecha is not exactly big on my preferences.

» Mahou Sensei Negima - I’ve been keeping up on the anime but it’s something I fail to keep on blogging about. I tend to have a very few words to say at the end of each episode. It’s either I like it or I don’t. ^^

» Major - Ah, my favorite series this season. Yes, it’s a sports anime but a little bit different from the rest. So far, character advancement is given priority instead of the baseball action itself. The unexpected romance is a pleasant bonus. And as far a latest development goes… Damn, I want my ep 6 NOW. T_T

» Peach Girl - Cute shojo romance and it’s cliches but I’m still itching to get my hands on the manga itself.

» Sukisyo - PoT, KKM, and even Gravitation failed awaken my inner fangirl but now, I’ve seen the light. *laughs* Okay, not really. However, I’m thoroughly enjoying myself with the silly antics of Sora and Nao. The mysterious and serious aspect also left this viewer intrigued.

In addition to these series, I’m still keeping up with the older set. Tactics is still so-so yet oddly interesting for me. Fantastic Children is going strong but I’ve sadly neglected to watch the latest two releases. I’ll get to it later. My backlog of BECK is steadily growing because of the startling releases of Shinsen. I’m still awaiting for the final episode of Genshiken. Otogi’s penultimate and final episode will be aired around March so I’ll be keeping an eye on those (ah, I hate the Tokyo arc). And of course, One Piece remains the priority to watch whenever I have tremendous stack of episodes to view.

On a different note, I haven’t kept up with the Naruto anime. Frankly, the looooong arc is trying my patience. However, once it concludes, I’ll probably get around to it (but I’ll probably not blog about it anymore unless it’s uber-special). But for now, I’m reveling at the amazing developments of the current arc of the manga. I can’t believe I’m liking Sakura. Kishimoto bounces back from the creative slump. Maybe I’ll start worshipping him again. ;p
