Genshiken: Finale

The finale serves as a wrap up of the continuing semi-arc, in addition to a nice set-up in case a second season is plausible. With the lackluster ratings of Genshiken, the series is rather cut short before it fully blossomed. Yet who can blame the studio, one cannot ignore its prosaic offerings. Every now and then, the audiences catch a glimpse of a splash of brilliance but it is never consistent. While I’m cognizant of the existing humor, it is rather far in between. The sitcom-like format, while originally appealing, backfires. And for a character-centric show, it is rather disappointing to see only a couple of characters flourish.
Not to be confused with an audience member who dislikes the program, but I simply have to point out some of its obvious flaws. Even with the misgivings, I’ve become fond with majority of the characters especially dear Saki and her transition from an outsider to someone included in the circle (albeit reluctantly). But I suppose, the main point of the season is to present a struggling organization blossom into a respectable group.
Despite the repeated misses, my affection for Saki overcomes the stack-full of complaints. Heck, I’m even awaiting for the DVDs to come out. And if by chance a second season is produced, I’ll definitely welcome the show with open arms.
