Major: Episode 06

I know my entry is way behind but for those who haven’t seen any of the eps this entry is laden with major spoilers. No pun intended. ;p
Eventhough armed with the knowledge of Honda’s fate, this installment remains a powerful episode for this audience member. As much as I try to hold my emotions together, I couldn’t help but be choked up as soon as the first frame begins. And I totally lost it when Goro finally realizes what happened to his dad. Needless to say, I’ll be sporting puffy eyes for next hour or two.
I can’t believe this is a sports anime. Instead of opting for flashbacks employed by titles of the same genre, the author chooses to lay down intensive groundwork for Goro. The dynamics within the primary and even some secondary characters are established. And while some certain melodrama is involved, it did not cheapen the treatment of Honda’s passing. The emotion felt by the viewer is without a doubt earned through its storytelling and not by the usual tricks employed.
Darnit, I love this series.
