Erementar Gerad

Yikes, more shounen anime to add to my ever-inflating watch list. Ahhh…my poor, poor hard drive. Needless to say, Erementar Gerad provides enough oomph for this audience member. Regular visitors might realize by now that I will usually welcome (with open arms) any loud-mouthed (and usually annoying) protagonists. I’m quite partial to this genre, to say the least.
Pirate-in-training Coud inadvertently opens a mysterious box and finds a yet more mysterious girl (I’m channeling some Outlaw Star here). As it turns out, the strange girl can merge with a human and provide them with seriously wicked weapons. Nice.
The designs are rather good and I’m happy with the careful use of CGI. The music is pretty much okay but it feels as if I’ve already heard it before. The characters’ personalities remain to be seen, so I’ll hold my breathe for now. Overall, the title offers a competent pilot episode and a surprising cliffhanger to the audiences. A solid beginning for this new series.
BTW, Cisqua’s outfit reminds me too much of Sakura (CCS). Is it just me reading *way* too much about Tsubasa?
