Glass Mask: Episode 03

With my exorbitant fangirl-ing in the previous entries out of the way, I can almost view the episode with a more objective eye. Well, sort-of.

Despite her mother’s absence in the theater, Maya continues with her school play. Yup, the show must go on. She even utilizes the experience as a tool to enhance her performance, albeit instinctively. Among the audience sits Tsukikage who quietly broods over Maya’s talents. At the end of the play, Maya officially catches the acting bug. To recreate the experience, she proceeds to Ondine, a first rate acting school to seek information on classes. Unfortunately, she encounters mishaps. She is informed of the expensive fees which she could not afford. Then, she is attacked by a guard dog (but she is saved by one of the students). After that, she is asked to pantomime a specific scene amidst a hostile environment. Although the Ondine students continuously mock her performance, an extremely talented young girl acknowledges the potential in Maya. Heh, the rival appears.

Maya is on her way to the stage but obstacles lie ahead. Her mother is no help either. Although she clearly loves and cares for her daughter, she is blind to her talents and gifts. She seems to try to protect her child by looking for faults in her to dissuade Maya from joining potentially disastrous activities. *sigh* Such a shame not to believe in your kid.

While I love the episode, I should confess to the brief horror I felt during Maya’s sudden internalization of the character, Bibi. I mean, that whole shouting thing, in addition to the wind effect and the audiences’ reaction were too much for me to handle. It triggers some unwanted memories from Cooking Master Boy. I reckon, this might be an ongoing thing in the series. So I should learn to live with as I have dealt with the excessive quivering of Fantastic Children.
