Samurai Champloo: Episode 23

This series never fails to amaze me, and I don’t mean it in a gushing way. How can a deep and eloquent storyline such as the Sara arc be in the same programme with this silly baseball episode? True, it is an attempt at satire (or at least, I hope that’s the case) but I can only focus on the apparent foolishness.
As mentioned above, the title is capable of offering affecting tales. Yet, the director seems to focus more on experimental visual techniques that it loses sight on the emotional and intellectual aspect of the show. Impressive animation are always welcome but a well thought-out narrative takes much higher priority for this viewer.
As for the episode, all I can say is, “WTF!”.
