The Law of Ueki 01

Eh, more of this genre? With the numerous fighting anime this spring in addition to my mostly shounen-anime populated to-do-list (i.e. One Piece, Bleach, etc.), my poor brain threatens to become numb. But will this minor threat impede this blogger’s viewing habits? Of course not. As long as my eyes function, nothing can hinder this audience member from watching absurdly powerful face-off and simple plots. Ah, my shallowness shows.

A cool and collected lad inherits an odd power, turning trash into tree trunks (I told you it’s really odd) but every time he improperly utilizes this gift a fragment of his self wanes. His main task is to confront others with similar skills and become the last person standing. It’s like a fusion of Maburaho (only the number of magic part) and as many have mentioned Konjiki no Gash Bell (I refuse to call it Zatch Bell).

The Law of Ueki is “Think Green”. Okay, maybe not. But the eco-friendly campaign meshed into the storyline is certainly integral to the series. If the save-mother-earth mantra becomes a constant echo throughout the entire series, this viewer may eventually go nuts. Occasional sermons are fine but I live for mindless fun.

Although this anime shows several limitations including the subpar animation and the cliched storyline, the lead character exudes a strange charm even through his quiet persona. That alone earns this show a chance for a second viewing.
