Honey and Clover: Episode 01

Although I had a healthy interest in this series when it was first announced, the influx of more-than-decent and enjoyable titles this season pushed this back to my maybe-another-time watch list. And there’s the thing about the lack of subs… ^^;;
I did not expect a barrage of laugh-out-loud moments from this series. I kept expecting some sort of AishiBaby vibes (which I initially adored then eventually disliked) filled with uber-cutesy moments from Hagumi. But so far, she seems to be likeable enough not to be a future annoyance. I find her rather adorable, in fact. But is she really supposedly eighteen years old? She looks as if she’s seven, and I’m being generous here.
The dynamics between the dorm students, Mayama, Takemoto, and Morita will probably be the most essential factor in this series. Slice-of-life type of shows primarily rely on character interaction, right? They seem to have a nice mesh of personalities. I wonder about the others, though.
I’m still not entirely sold but I can see myself enjoying the leisurely pace of such show. As long as humor is incorporated and as long as it does not reek of uber-sweetness.
BTW, Mayama’s seiyuu, Tomokazu Sugita, is the same voice actor as SnA’s Sirius. Um, he’s quite a cutie, in a preppy sort of way. Hmmm. I think he’ll look better if he has glasses on. (I have a thing for glasses-wearing preppies.)
