Major: Episode 16

A dash of romance is nothing new to the sports genre. Yet watching Goro discovering the wonders of a school boy infatuation is rather charming, akin to the one’s fond scrutiny to one’s own little brother’s first crush. Ah. But of course, this middle school crush is not complete without any complications coming from another party. A triangle, it is.

The episode does not merely highlight the blooming semi-romance in Major. It also emphasizes Shimizu’s significance to Goro. While not entirely indispensable, Shimizu bypasses the genre’s stereotypical presentation of characters such as her.

It is as if Major never fails to tug one’s heartstrings. The story-driven approach to the sports genre consistently captivates this blogger. Instead of indulging in a bout of testosterone-fest, the chapters continually delve into the characters’ maturity. I humbly bow to Takuya-sensei.
