Bleach: Episode 34

Sometimes I regret reading the Bleach manga. It takes out the element of surprise in watching this adaptation. Nevertheless, the execution of the scene in question is superbly realized. It even manages to pull out appropriate emotions (sans surprise) as it closes for a cliffhanger.
Still, having read the current Bleach chapters slightly dissipates the thrill of speculation. Then again, the arousing activities in the manga are enough for this blogger to theorize on an endless string of possibilities, enough to keep one occupied. It also helps the viewer appreciate the details of such twist and acknowledge that this incident is not merely for shock value alone. It is as if to suggest that the culmination of these events will lead to more rewarding viewing experience in the future.
In a diffent note, Bleach is dangerously toying with the precarious realm of flashbacks. This old technique can improve the audience’s understanding on a certain character or situation, as seen in one scene involving the dynamics between Kira, Hinamori, and Renji and in a couple of episodes ago. But the use of old material for the sole purpose of reminding people of what had previously happened should be sparsely used. Improper usage not only disrupts the flow of an episode but it also leads to high irksome levels. And we have two instances in this chapter which are perilously close to edging over the line. Let’s hope this is not a start of a trend.
