Glass Mask: Episode 12

The play used for the National Drama competition barely stirred any reaction while reading the manga. However, watching the scene in animation gives rise to a new perspective. Maya’s seiyuu Sanae Kobayashi once again proves her acting prowess, utilizing subtle changes in tone and pitch while playing the role of Gina. Although to be honest, I am more partial to her vocal performances when Maya is in character. Go figure.
The evil Ondine director triumphs at the National Drama Competition, but only after manipulation and dirty schemes. As a consequence, Tsukikage-sensei’s investor pulls out their money from the theater company living the former actress without a financier. She is now forced to leave behind her new studio. Her dreams seem to go at a screeching halt. Yet to her surprise, a few of her loyal students vow to continue their education from her.
Glass Mask has found its own pace. It neither lags nor ventures into brisk steps. It takes time presenting new faces, plot ideas, and emotional intensity yet never in an unhurried fashion. I find the contradiction a rather interesting trend. I can now honestly say that I’m enjoying this adaptation as a separate thing from the manga itself. Then again, it’s about time. I wouldn’t want to follow a series merely because of my manga-worship. ^^;;
