Glass Mask: Episode 14

With fourteen episodes under its belt, Glass Mask has been confidently walking its stride. It closely follows the manga yet still manages to bring out a refreshing outlook. Not once did the apparent modernization of the character designs interfered with the ongoing plotline. It only proves the timelessness of this tale. Here’s a few random thoughts on some key characters of the series.

A childhood lacking of encouragement, Maya grows up to be a girl without an ego. She seems to know her capability but she fails to realize the specialness of her talent. This unawareness makes her a target of envy and bullying. Fortunately for her, she is oblivious to such tactics, which of course annoys those jealous of her. The most extraordinary thing, though, she is always quick to point out the wrongdoings of Masumi when she is utterly clueless to others. It must be love. *lol*

Ayumi’s self-assurance can be mistaken as arrogance. But the hours of practice to hone her craft is a proof of her struggle to achieve her goal. Her one-track mind will pursue the role of the lifetime, playing the Kurenai Tenyou. She is willing to step on anyone blocking her way, even her mother. She may not win Miss Congeniality with her attitude but you have to give her credit for immersion to her calling

Masumi never defends himself in front of Maya. He never explains the misunderstandings. In fact, whenever the young miss lashes out at him, he’ll return the favor by doing a good did through his alter-ego, the mysterious purple-rose dude. He must be a glutton for punishment. A bit of a masochist, maybe. Why can’t he just admit to himself that he has a lolli-fettish feelings for the lass? It will make his life (and the viewers’) so much simpler. But of course, the epic love story will abruptly end.

Anyhow, we have a new ED them for the new season. All I can say is that they should bring back the last one. I’m not buying this new ED. It somehow does not feel right for the series.
