Glass Mask: Episode 15

Ayumi’s performance in the ‘The Prince and the Pauper’ captures the hearts of the audiences composed of mostly children. Meanwhile on another stage filled with an older set of audience members, Maya once again shines to the amusement of the theater patrons. Both actresses, Ayumi and Maya, show their flexibility when acting in front of different age groups. Or at least, I think that’s one of the points of the episode.
The fictional characters’ performances will amount to nothing if their own seiyuu’s acting chops are not up to par. Both Ayumi and Maya’s voice talents show a nice range while depicting the character’s acting-mode, especially Ayumi’s pauper role. Imagine a delightful surprise coming from this viewer when I heard her speaking in such shounen-ish fashion. Adopting a different accent for Maya is also an entertaining experience but I had no way of knowing how well this VA had done in copying the correct accent. In some ways, it felt a bit off. Oh, well.
I do not direct hateful thoughts to Ayumi but her constant yammering of the ‘I will not lose’ mantra is slowly grating my nerves. She obviously has great love for acting but she doesn’t seem to enjoy playing her roles as much as Maya does. The skillful techniques she possess helps her realize the parts but I get the feeling that she fails to fully immerse herself as the person she is depicting. Or maybe not. >__ <
