Major: Episode 22

I have yet to encounter a useless female in this series. It is already a given that throughout the season Momoko has shown determination and fortitude. It is same with the female players of Major. They are equally tenacious and persevering as their male counterparts. Superficially, Ryoko looks as if she’s the prototype for a frail shoujo heroine. Beneath her gentle demeanor lies a competitive streak and expertise. Shimizu currently lacks the polished skill needed to be considered a top-notch player. But her perseverance and spunk drives her to push her body’s limit.

With the tournament temporarily out of the way, the series once again impart another episode filled with laughter and tears. At first, Komori’s injury is played out in a teasing manner. Until Shimizu steps in and demonstrate her willfulness. The chapter is also the home of one of the series’ best tearjerker. An ordinary meeting turns into a emotional encounter when Ryoko’s naive comments turns into major blunder. The extending scene stretches into an affecting exchange between Goro and Ryoko. Unfortunately, it unsuccessfully transition to a lighter atmosphere. While I understand Goro’s personality to be a forgiving kind, I fail to accept his seeming apologizing manner at the end of the said scene.

While glitches are more obvious that usual, the overall presentation provides a very entertaining ride complete with its ever-present plot movement. The Mifune crew finally solidifies their bond and develops into a unified team. The game with Yokohama will test their newfound strength.
