Black Jack: Episode 01

It has been a while since the release of the animated adaptation of Black Jack. While I have always meant to take a stab at viewing the highly acclaimed series, I somehow always relegate the title to the bottom of my watch list. So today, I make an effort and try to get a feel for first episode. With currently thirty six episodes under its belt and only half of which has been subbed, I have a long way to go before I can catch up with the series. We’ll see if this procrastinating self will carry out til the end this little project of mine.

Misconceptions and primary assumptions on Black Jack are wrongly placed, I expected an uber-serious tone with hushed voices but what I get is a mix of sometimes funny and adrenaline pumping ride. It also boasts of excellent music, ranging from fairy tale like tunes, operatic sounds, and contemporary pop as the ED theme. While did not expect Black Jack with an immensely deep voice, I believe it suitable for this character. As for Pinoco… Heaven forbid, if I can stand more episodes of her annoying pseudo-cutesy voice. Argh, it’s like fingers grating on a chalkboard.

If ever the direction of the series gears towards episodic storylines with ‘case-of-the-week’ highlights, it is highly possible for me to lose interest. I am rather fond of long plotlines and continuing arcs. But as of now, I’ll try give the title a chance to sink in.

Not to nitpick or anything but how come there wasn’t any blood seen during the operation of the kid? Not even one teeny drop. Even the layout of the OR itself and the machines are rather bothersome. *sigh* Oh, and another thing. Am I the only one focusing on the surgeon’s nose during his operation to chibi!Black Jack? All I can think about is gigantic whitehead on his nose. Ewww…
