Glass Mask: Episode 22

Audition time for Maya and Ayumi. Whee, it’s going to be fun… Oh, wait. Oops, I spoke too soon. Unfortunately, what should’ve been fun, amusing, and moving did not translate well in this installment. The Helen Kellen audition itself, I mean. Rather than showing a display of acting prowess, the audiences are provided with banal and admittedly laughable (in an entirely unintentional way). I’m quite miffed since I expect more from both the director and the voice actors.

While I understand the difficulty of playing Helen Keller, I cannot comprehend the interpretation given by any of the VAs for Ayumi, Maya, and Emi. What the heck were they thinking?

But most of the annoyance diminishes when the obligatory Maya-Masumi banter appears at the end of the casting session. Then cut to the one-sided angst of Sakurakouji and Maya. Maya. A great actress, a nice person and all. But kinda dense when it comes to other departments. And to top off the unexpected bonuses, a psychotic laughter is heard from our very own diva Tsukikage-sensei. She’s insane and I love her for that.
