Tide-Line Blue: Episode 05

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Uh-uh, I think not. I wish I could utter such embarrassing line yet it inaccurately describes my thoughts on the show. As much as I hate to admit this, my enthusiasm from the first episode slowly diminishes. I expected more from this title. Bah. Give me an exposition episode, damnit. Patience might be a virtue but this audience member does not aim for sainthood. Ack, two uber-cliched lines in one very short paragraph… My English teacher must be extremely proud. (I wish everyone can read sarcasm in internet speak.)
Not to be mistaken, the series has been consistently smart and funny. The animation quality also proves to be top-notch. On the other hand, the narrative flow can sometimes be jagged. Though the A and B plots are clearly established, transitions from scene to scene are uneven causing loss of momentum in climactic moments.
Another problem I find in Tide-Line Blue is the lack of sympathetic characters. While we know of the noble-ness and strengths of the cast, we are still presented with only their surface. The show seems to be reluctant to delve deeper to the characters. But I’m only halfway to the game and I am still optimistic that my bet will pull through. I do hope the audiences will be given answers soon. Tick-tock, tick-tock.
