Glass Mask: Episode 26

Like the last episode, the twenty-sixth installment emphasizes that Maya is a star. Hee. I really think this development is funny. I don’t know why either. Of course, her rise to fame has earned her quite a few enemies. And the crazy ones are out to sabotage her. In one of those dangerous moments where the ‘more-than-just-a-prank’ has threatened Maya’s safety, the J-idol, whom Maya’s currently infatuated with, rushes to the rescue. The heroic gesture is seen not only by Masumi, but by Sakurakouji too. Awww. They look as if they rather see Maya’s guts splattered all over the floor than see her canoodling with the one-dimensional Shigeru.

The heart-broken Sakurakouji (his name is too darn long, henceforth I’m calling him by his given name Yuu) realizes Maya’s feelings for the other actor and lets her go. Awww again. Even I get teary. But hah. If you think the sentimental fool is gone for good, you’re wrong. He’ll be back. Hehe, did I spoil it? Just think of his temporary vacation as the stripping of one of the layers of Maya’s safe haven. I’ll try to elaborate once we get to that future episode. With Yuu out of the picture (not that Shigeru knew of his existence anyway), Maya is free to reciprocate Shigeru’s, erm, feelings. Eep, goosebumps. And not in a good way.

The Shigeru-Maya confession is done publicly. Very strategic of Shigeru, if I say so myself. First, it’s hard for Maya to turn him down (in case, she wasn’t in to him). Second, once they become a pair, the couple will not need to hide the relationship from the press. And more importantly, the moment is great publicity. While Masumi might have agreed with the business aspect of this development, I can assure the gentle viewer that he’ll be start punching Shigeru’s pretty face if he didn’t have an enormous amount of self-control. I’m surprised he didn’t crush the wine glass he was carrying, with the shaking and clenching that was going on. Poor Masumi. If you want, I can comfort you. Just say the word.

If you’ve seen the preview, you just know that the happiness that Maya is currently experiencing is fleeting. It sucks, yes. But so does life. And pain is so much interesting than happy.
