Black Cat: Episode 06

Random thought. Is psycho-dude Creed planning to be known as Akai Bara no hito? Ack, no thank you. Red Rose dude just is not the same as Purple Rose dude.
Warning to readers: To those who have not read the manga, take note that this episode commentary is riddled with major spoilers. I would advise not to proceed below if you have not seen the episode nor have prior knowledge of the storyline. But if you must know a little tidbit, I have to say: This episode is effing excellent.
I cannot loosely proclaim that this is on par with another favorite of mine — frankly, it is too early to tell –, yet my optimistic self can almost sense an solid writing staff akin to those who worked on the acclaimed FMA TV series. As I mentioned a number of times in previous posts, Black Cat has yet to disappoint this viewer with its stunning visuals (which can be artsy at times), excellent fight sequences, beautiful soundtrack, and character progression infrequently seen in this type of genre.
It never fails. Whenever mystery sweeper girl, Saya, is on screen, the atmosphere becomes lighter yet melancholy, sometimes almost heartbreaking. Possibly, this reaction is due from prior knowledge of the manga. Or maybe due to the subtle foreshadowing hinted in her scenes with Train. To describe the emotions percolating inside this audience member is rather difficult but I would compare it to my reception to the Fruit Basket\’s Hatori-Kana episode.
While Creed\’s rampage is inevitable, the presentation of the violent action still hits unexpectedly and hard. Instead of showing Saya\’s entire futile defense, only select frames are given away which leaves room for imagination. He finishes his attack swiftly and efficiently, which only give the sweeper girl moments to realize her predicament, same with this viewer. As the music reaches crescendo, we, the audience, accept the fated tragedy. We now mourn for what could have been between Saya and Train.
How about that for depressing?
