Few thoughts to ponder…

In the past four years while I slowly morphed from a casual anime fan to a not-so-casual enthusiast, I have been noticing a thing or two in our little community. Weird notions are developed in this process.

  • Naruto-lurv in IRC. @Find Naruto results to a kick, a ban, or worse mockery, except when performed in chans dedicated to the frequently bashed title. I pity dudes who innocently type in the infamous function only to be poked fun by others. But if leeches type in this function in Naruto channels, the redundancy alone should be a valid excuse to kick the dude’s arse and more. Right?

    Frankly, I don’t think Naruto is not a piece of DBZ rubbish. But it is the inarticulate pushy dudes who evangelize to non-believers in very irksome fashion which earns the wrath of the supposed enlightened ones.

    Erm, don’t look at me. I’m far from articulate and I love pushing recommending titles I obsess about have interest in to others. Have you read my Major entries? Oh, and at one point in time, I enjoyed Naruto as well.

  • Pr0n talk in any given anime/manga channel will always come through. No matter how intelligent and articulate the dialogues begin, it ends in a surreal conversation involving pr0n. Seriously.

    You don’t believe me? Try this little exercise.

    On a Friday morning, join any of your favorite anime/manga chan. Leave it unattended until Sunday morning. Now, try skimming through the conversations.

    See? I rest my case.

  • Anime-related purchases threads should be banned in all forums. Period. Anime/manga forums usually have their own version of ‘Your latest purchases’ thread. Lurking, skimming, and most of all actively engaging in the conversations will result tremendous amount of temptation. Damnit.

    I seldom lurk at forums. Posts are even rare. All changes when Maestro4k sets up the nifty AB forums. *cough*pimpage*cough* Then fellow blogger, Token Asian starts a seemingly innocent thread which dooms budgeting skills and challenges self-control. In addition to drool-worthy images shared by other big spenders anime enthusiasts, another poster, an esteemed blogger who shall remain nameless *cough*moyism*cough* is gifted to entice already pliant posters into temptation. ;p

    Ahh. It’s no use hiding it. I can’t pass the blame to anyone. It’s an addiction, really. Maybe someone should start another thread. “Hi, my name is Ten. I have not purchased any anime-related products in six months.” *cringe* Scary thought.

  • Fansubs and licensed titles. Ahh. The debate that goes on and on and on and on and on and on…,,,and on. And it would not f*cking stop.

    The inflexible moralists, the devil-may-care radicals, the non-conformist advocates, and the casual observer share their views in a pseudo-intellectual arguments and legal jargon. Then some idiot will say the magic words, “Anime should be free.” Ah, the fun starts.

    To be honest, I’m with the idiot. I WANT free anime. Heck, I demand it. So there’s the fansubs or raws which I get for free. But, I get obsessed and buy the DVD. Of course, I read the manga and I purchase that too. Then, there’s the gashies and figures and other merchandise that beckon. Argh. I retract my statement.

  • The Moe revolution awakens fanboy’s inner fetishes: goths, loli, megane, sailor uniforms, etc. Amusing and slightly creepy-fying, otakus everywhere freely admit their partiality to such things.

    Oh, and this applies to fangirls too. Just change the girls to uber-bishies and we will scream in delight. Heck, if you lurk around LJ enough, you’ll find tons of fangirls and their smut. o_0 Errr, I deny allegations to any charges against me.

    I keep wondering why this behavior is very much acceptable in our fandom. And if we step in the ‘real’ world, it’s honestly embarrassing to admit such things. Right… ^^;;

If anyone is offended by these observations, just take note that the blogger is temporarily insane while typing this entry. And to anyone who takes this seriously, oh, well. A vague disclaimer is nobody’s friend.
